What does a typical first visit to a Chiropractor entail?
A typical first visit to a chiropractor consists of a routine medical examination which includes a detailed history of the presenting patient, vital signs, reflexes, and postural examination. The chiropractor will then go on to perform various muscle and orthopedic testing in an attempt to determine what is causing a patient’s pain. If the aggravating agent can easily be identified, and the patient complies, a chiropractor will proceed to treatment using one or multiple therapies and procedures mentioned earlier. Sometimes, depending on the symptomology of the patient, an X-ray, MRI, blood test, or other medical tests may be recommended and/or ordered to confirm a certain diagnosis. If the patient’s condition is not able to be treated, often the Doctor of Chiropractic will refer the patient to the appropriate medical professional.
