Kinesiology Taping:

Kinesiology taping provides an array of therapeutic benefits including: pain relief, swelling reduction, bruise fading, muscle activation/deactivation, spasm reduction, structural support of injured regions, and a speedy recovery for overused muscles.  K-tape is the tape that you see all over Olympic and professional athletes during competition.  It's unique bonding properties allow the tape to stick for several days, which encourages and promotes healing time rates.

Pain Relief- Kinesiology tape provides pain relief through physical and neurological mechanisms.  The "lifting" action of the tape relieves inflammatory pressures irritating pain receptors under the skin; allowing quick relief from acute injuries.  It can also affect chronic pain by giving weakened muscles, tendons, and ligaments aided structural support.  This bracing and support will allow full range of motion while providing structural integrity to the joint.

Swelling and Bruise Reduction- The "lifting" action of the tape allows for a reduction of pressure on the lymphatic drainage channels allowing a faster draining rate.  The lymph system is responsible for the removal of fluids and other materials that accumulate in the injured areas. This includes swelling from acute injuries, or even leg swelling that occurs with diabetes or congestive heart failure.

Prevention and Relief of Muscle Spasm-  Enhanced circulation to muscles, that occurs after taping, allows for a quicker delivery of oxygen to the muscle cells.  This rapid delivery of oxygen helps to relax muscle spasms associated with oxygen deprivation.  Also, taping allows for a quicker removal of cellular waist products, which are associated with muscle spasms and cramps in overused or injured muscles.

Structural Support for Weak or Injured Body Parts-  The unique elastic properties of Kinesiology-Tape provides structural support without limiting range of motion.  The support discourages harmful/painful movements, while promoting all healthy movements allowed by the structure.  By providing pain-free movement to the injured region, healing nutrients and oxygen are able to reach the injured structure at a faster rate.
