Distribution of Sciatic Nerve Pain.

Sciatic nerve pain (Sciatica) is generally caused by Sciatic Nerve compression through osseous misalignments, disc-bulges/herniation’s, or muscle spasm.  Symptoms of Sciatic Nerve pain begins in your back or buttock area and moves down your leg, sometimes into the foot.  Weakness, tingling sensations, or numbness in the leg may also occur.

How we can treat sciatic nerve pain:

All Chiropractic techniques and treatments help the body promote healing.  There are a few different types of treatment used to relieve Sciatica, and each treatment plan is based on the cause of pain.

Spinal Adjustments:

The Sciatic Nerve is made up from the L4-S3 Spinal nerve roots.  This means any vertebral misalignments or disc bulging/herniation’s occurring in these levels have the ability to cause Sciatic Nerve pain.  Chiropractic adjustments correct these vertebral misalignments putting them back into their correct anatomical position.  This helps to reduce nerve irritability responsible for causing inflammation, muscle spasm, pain, and other symptoms related to Sciatica.  Also spinal adjustments help take the abnormal tensions off the disc, reducing the pressure a herniated or bulging disc may be placing on the nerve.

Nerve Stimulation:

Dr. Maroon uses the latest electrical nerve stimulation equipment, at various intensities, to control the acute or chronic pain and muscle spasms associated with Sciatica.

Soft Tissue Therapies:

Sometimes Sciatic pain is caused by spasms of the muscles in the gluteal regions.  If this is the case, Dr. Maroon is trained in PNF stretching and various other soft tissue therapies which are used to combat muscle spasms.  Unless these soft tissue components are addressed, patients who experience this specific type of Sciatic pain generally are unable to find relief.
