Headache Relief:

Chiropractic has shown to be effective in treating the symptomology associated with various headache types including: tension headaches, migraines, cluster headaches, cervicogenic headaches, dehydration related headaches, stress related headaches, and sinus headaches.

Migraines: The cause of migraine headaches in unknown, but the common symptomology is caused by changes in the blood vessels of the brain.  Migraine pain is moderate to severe and generally consists of a pounding/throbbing pain on one side of the head.  Migraine headaches generally last from a 4-72 hours, and generally occur from 1-4x a month.  Some migraines are associated with symptoms such as light and sound sensitivity, nausea, vomiting, and a loss of appetite.  Sufferers of migraines find relief in the duration and intensity of their headaches following routine chiropractic adjustments.

Cluster Headaches: Cluster headaches are an uncommon variety of headache that generally cause a stabbing like sensation along the forehead or behind the eyes.  The pain is so severe that most cluster headache sufferers cannot tolerate the pain, and are constantly moving/jittering during their attacks.  They generally occur 1-3x per day during a “cluster period” which may last from 2 weeks to 3 months.  Main triggers of cluster headaches include excessive alcohol intake and afternoon naps.  Treatment of cluster headaches generally consists of cervical chiropractic adjustments as well as life-style modifications.

Sinus headaches: Sinus headaches are associated with a constant deep pain in the sinuses which are located in the cheek bones, forehead, or bridge of the nose.  The pain usually intensifies with sudden head movements or straining while bending forward.  Other symptoms of sinus headaches include nasal discharge, a feeling of pressure in the ears, fever, and facial swelling.  Chiropractic treatment is generally through cervical adjustments, which stimulates drainage and decreased inflammation in the sinus regions.

Tension Headaches: Tension Headaches are described as a squeezing like sensation that occurs on both sides of the head.  Most sufferers of tension headaches will describe their pain as if “their head was placed in a vice.”  Tension headaches are very much related to stress levels, alcohol use, skipping meals, changes in sleep patterns, eye strain, or neck/back pain due to poor posture.  Chiropractic treatment of these headaches is generally through cervical adjustments and life-style modification.

Cervicogenic Headaches: Cervicogenic headaches are headaches that are caused by vertebral misalignments and excessive muscle tension/spasm in the neck region.  These headaches are described as a deep and dull ache that is exacerbated by movements of the neck and head.  Most suffers are those with poor posture, and those who do excessive computer work.  Chiropractic treatment includes cervical adjustments, soft tissue therapies to the neck region, and life-style modification.

All headache suffers have the same goals in common in that they want their headache pain gone, and they do not want their headaches to return.  Chiropractic is a holistic, non-invasive medical approach that is FDA approved for the treatment of headaches.
